Celebrating Failure
4/13/20
1. This past semester, I failed to get grade I wanted on my first finance exam. I worked really hard at this class, watching all the videos and taking all the practice exams because I knew the difficulty of the course. Each time I took the practice exams I would get the same concepts wrong so I would always go back to look over where I am a mistake. Although I did all these things to prepare for the exam, I was still unhappy with the grade I received and therefore "failed" in my book.
2. From this failure, I learned how to adjust my studying for the next exam. I realized that the Study Edge was not the only material I should be studying. I started to watch all the lectures and do all the problems he posted to the Canvas additionally to the Study Edge ones. As a result of this, I did so much better on the second exam. I learned how to approach the next exam and how I can take this lesson with me to my other courses in the future.
3. Failure is hard. Failure is embarrassing. Failure is painful. When I fail, in my eyes and through other peoples eyes, it is really hard for me to cope with and it increases my level of anxiety. However, this failure and this courses taught me that it is okay to fail and you need to learn to just get up and try again. Know that you did the best you could. This lesson will help me in future courses as well as in the real world. I am definitely more likely to take risks now than I was.
Hi Samantha!I can totally relate. My post was about doing not so great on an exam I just didn't put enough studying time into. I think it is really awesome that you can brush failure off to keep going. I have struggled with that in the past for sure. I'm glad you can adapt to change, but you still know what is best for you like when it comes to where you prefer. Great post! Good luck with the rest of the semester and on your finals
ReplyDeleteHey Sam!
ReplyDeleteYou have a really well written post. I think its really great that you learned to succeed from your failure this semester. I went through the same thing this semester, but in a different class, and I saw that my bad performance on my first exam is the main reason I succeeded on the second. Our experiences prove that sometimes failure is for the best.
Good luck on your final!
Hello Samantha,
ReplyDeleteI am sorry that you did not do well on the first exam. With that said, I feel like that experience was certainly valuable because you were able to adjust your study habits. By doing so, you were able to have a more effective study approach. These failures can always serve as great learning opportunities and can help us succeed in the future.
Samantha,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you that sometimes the only metric for failure is one's own expectations and if they are met or not. I also hate that feeling of inadequacy and anxiety that comes when I don't do something to what I feel is the best of my ability. I found your story to be really inspiring and a good idea for what to do better the next time I have a similar experience. I actually have a test today and I kind of wished I had studied more for it. Thank you for your post.
